Open-Source Higgsfield Content Factory Alternative

Content Factory is a free, open-source Mac app for faceless What if shorts: script in, vertical video out. Compared with Higgsfield Content Factory.

Five vertical frames of one locked shot from Day 1 to Year 10,000, and the pipeline from script to rendered video

In short

  • Content Factory is a free, MIT-licensed Mac app that turns a What if script into a finished vertical video with AI frames, motion, voiceover, word-by-word subtitles and music.
  • It uses no video model: a one-minute video is about eight AI stills, animated on the Mac with depth parallax and frame interpolation.
  • Content Factory costs $0 per video: no plan, no credits, no watermark. The frames come from wherever you choose to make them, with your own key, and Drawn mode needs no images at all.
  • Higgsfield estimates its Content Factory at 63 credits, $3.15, for one one-minute episode on the Plus plan.
  • Content Factory runs on Apple silicon Macs and is built from source for now; there is no signed download yet.

Content Factory is a free, open-source alternative to Higgsfield Content Factory: a Mac app that turns a What if script into a finished vertical video for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels, with AI frames, motion, voiceover, word-by-word subtitles and music. It costs $0 per video: no plan, no credits, no video model. A one-minute video is about eight AI stills, made wherever you choose with your own key, and everything else runs on the Mac. Higgsfield’s own estimate for one minute is $3.15 on its Plus plan.

The trade-off is setup. Higgsfield writes the script for you in the cloud and offers more than 50 presets; Content Factory has to be built from source on an Apple silicon Mac, ships one format, and leaves the script to you or to Claude.

What Higgsfield Content Factory does

Higgsfield launched Content Factory in October 2026 for faceless “what if” videos. You give it a topic, optionally a TikTok or Instagram link as a reference for format and pacing, pick one of 50+ presets and 1 to 4 episodes, and it writes the script scene by scene, picks characters, generates the visuals and voiceover, and edits the video. Videos run from 15 seconds to 5 minutes, vertical 9:16. It is on higgsfield.ai, in Claude through Higgsfield’s MCP connector as /content-factory, and in Higgsfield’s Supercomputer.

Higgsfield’s cost estimates, based on the Plus plan at $49 a month for 1,000 credits:

Length 1 episode 4 episodes
15 seconds 15.75 credits, $0.79 63 credits, $3.15
1 minute 63 credits, $3.15 252 credits, $12.60
5 minutes 315 credits, $15.75 1,260 credits, $63.00

How credits turn into dollars on other plans is in Higgsfield credits explained.

What Content Factory does differently

Content Factory makes the same kind of video as an app you run yourself.

  • No video model. Each beat of the script gets one still from your image provider. The Mac turns the stills into motion with Depth Anything V2 depth parallax, RIFE frame interpolation and camera moves, and Remotion renders the result. The first frame sets the style; every other frame is an edit of it that changes only the state of the world, so the camera holds still while the world changes, which is how the format works.
  • Local voice and subtitles. Kokoro on MLX narrates in English, Vosk optionally in Russian; Whisper aligns the speech for word-by-word subtitles; CC0 music is ducked under the voice and loudness is normalised to −14 LUFS.
  • A quality check on length, black frames, loudness, speech clarity, text length and the music license before you accept a video.
  • Edit one beat, rebuild one beat. Every stage is cached by its input, so a changed line re-voices one beat and a new take of a frame re-renders only what depends on it.
  • Drawn mode. Claude draws each beat as an animated SVG scene with a gouache, ink, crayon or flat look. No images are generated, so the video costs nothing beyond the Claude plan you already use.
  • Formats are data. The bundled format, What if, is a folder with a schema, a guide for the writer, prompts, six style presets and a render template: 30 to 120 seconds, a counter on screen, one fact per beat and a loop back to the hook. A new format is a new folder, without touching the engine.

What a video costs on Content Factory

Nothing. Content Factory charges no plan, no credits and no fee per video. Script checks, voice, alignment, depth, interpolation, music, rendering and copies in other languages all run on the Mac.

The frames are the one part that comes from outside, and you choose where: OpenAI’s GPT Image, Google’s Nano Banana or FLUX.1 Kontext on fal.ai, with your own key, billed by them on your account. A one-minute What if video has about eight beats and so about eight frames, and several providers can share one video’s frames. In Drawn mode there are no frames to make at all.

Setting it up

There is no signed build yet. You need an Apple silicon Mac with uv, Node.js 20+, FFmpeg and Rust; the app is built with Tauri from the repository, and the first launch installs the renderer (about 1 GB), RIFE, the depth model and starter music, then asks for an image provider key. The steps are in the quick start.

To let Claude write and run videos, add the MCP server:

claude mcp add -s user content-factory -- uv run --project /path/to/content-factory/engine factory mcp

Then ask for something like “make a What if video about falling into Jupiter, 70 seconds, space epic style”. Claude reads the format’s rules, writes the script, sends it to the engine and picks up the result; the app shows the same queue.

Which one to use

  • No setup, longer videos or series, many styles: Higgsfield Content Factory, at about $3.15 a minute on Plus.
  • Many videos a week on a Mac, and control of the script: Content Factory, at a few image generations per video.
  • Videos that cost nothing: Content Factory in Drawn mode.
  • Your own format, not What if: Content Factory, by adding a format folder.

For other Higgsfield tools you can run from a Mac, see open-source Higgsfield alternatives and Higgsfield’s API, MCP and CLI; Jutsu Studio runs Higgsfield’s own video models from the Mac with your account.

FAQ.

Is there a free alternative to Higgsfield Content Factory?

Yes. Content Factory is a free, open-source Mac app that makes the same kind of faceless What if video. Voice, subtitles, motion and rendering run on the Mac; Content Factory itself costs $0 per video. The frames are made wherever you choose, with your own OpenAI, Gemini or fal.ai key, and Drawn mode needs no images.

How much does Higgsfield Content Factory cost?

Higgsfield estimates 15.75 credits ($0.79) for a 15-second episode, 63 credits ($3.15) for one minute and 315 credits ($15.75) for five minutes, based on the Plus plan at $49 a month for 1,000 credits.

Does Content Factory write the script?

No, the engine never writes scripts itself. You write the script in the app, or Claude or another MCP client writes it through Content Factory's MCP server, and the engine checks it against the format's schema before it makes anything.

Does Content Factory use a video model like Kling or Seedance?

No. Every frame is a still image from OpenAI, Gemini or fal.ai, and the motion comes from depth parallax, frame interpolation and camera moves done on the Mac. A one-minute video needs only about eight stills, made wherever you choose.

Does Content Factory add a watermark?

No. It is MIT-licensed, has no account, no credits and no watermark, and nothing is posted for you: you accept each video and export it yourself.

Does it run on Windows?

Not yet. It is tested on macOS with Apple silicon; Windows and Linux builds are planned, but their voice back end is not finished.
